The Virtual Life: Paramount Adopts UltraViolet

In a world where physical distribution is waning and digital downloads are burgeoning, it only makes sense to hop on the virtual bandwagon. We know how to be lazy. We do it well. So it's only natural that we employ technology that ensures our lives stay sedentary, glued to the Barcalounger by gluttony and pizza grease.
Paramount agrees. They are the first studio to sell UltraViolet directly to the consumer on their website. This cloud-based service will allow the user to download films, shows and other media, and play it on multiple registered devices. That alone is pretty nifty, but recent advents have allowed this technique to join with something truly worth our dollar. As a member of their proprietary service, you can upload previously purchased DVDs at select retailers to have your entire collection online, instant and ready.
The DRM copyrighting and device-specific usage may hinder some buyers, but purchasing/renting a movie without leaving the house is an attractive offer, especially if it's full HD.
Here's to vegging out.
