DARPA Developing 'Avatar-Like' Surrogate Robots

We love the future! We can't wait for flying cars, and jet packs, and Internet in our brains and the iPhone 8. And though only some of those things may make it to our Jetsons world, we still can dream.
Like DARPA, who thinks that one day soldiers will be able to fight battles far away from the front lines using a robot surrogate. The U.S. military research wing is planning on these robots like in the movie Avatar, but instead of blue aliens they'll be robots. According to Wired, DARPA has a $7 million program code-named 'Avatar' in its 2013 budget. Wow.
The goal would be to reduce the number of human warriors and ensure safety and efficiency. "The Avatar program will develop interfaces and algorithms to enable a soldier to effectively partner with a semi-autonomous bi-pedal machine and allow it to act as the soldier's surrogate," DARPA told Wired.
With robot soldiers and robot pack mules, the future is likely to scare the $#!& out of many. Exciting!
